This project involved the transformation of a derelict Grade II listed cottage with attached stables. The cottage was sensitively refurbished whilst retain its historic charm and the adjoining stables were converted into a two-bedroom barn conversion.
Throughout the design process, we prioritised the preservation and enhancement of the building’s historical significance, as well as its relationship with the nearby church.
To achieve this we ensured with the use of reclaimed Delabole rag slate and paid special attention to the design of windows and doors, ensuring they were in keeping with the building’s original character.
Log burners were installed in both dwellings, adding a cosy, welcoming ambiance that blends modern comforts with the structure’s historic roots. The contractor has done a wonderful job in merging contemporary living with traditional design elements, creating spaces that feel both timeless and inviting.
A & K undertook all design works required, submitted and managed the full planning application along with listed building consent required for the legal conversion of the building. This included discussions with the conservation team and parish council.
Once approved, we provided full building regulation documentation that enabled the contractor to deliver this picture perfect Cornish retreat.
